The Caravelle has been at the center of Saigon society since the hotel was opened in 1959. In 1998, an elegant 24-storey tower was built as a complement to the original 10-storey building. With commanding views of the city and an enviable location opposite the Opera House, the landmark hotel is at the heart of a city once renown as the Pearl of the Orient.
The Caravelle was home to many members of the international press corps during the Vietnam War, a time when Saigon (now known universally as Ho Chi Minh City) was the center of extraordinary upheaval and turmoil. Nowadays, the hotel is a favorite for nostalgic travelers and discerning visitors alike. The Caravelle remains the definitive luxury hotel in the heart of Saigon.

...“The Caravelle Hotel was good. Not outstanding, just good. Having booked 5 months prior we had a good exchange rate from GBP to USD, however the hotel was still expensive. As the exchange rate is now substantially worse I would only rate this hotel as average for the money. We did stay at the Sheraton in Feb 08 and we enjoyed this hotel much more (see review). I would add that The Caravelle breakfast was very claustrophobic and defiantly not 5* and their Saigon Saigon bar is overpriced and overrated.”

“The Caravelle is a great hotel, its in a central location, near to the histroic and beautiful Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral. Our room had wonderful views over the city, and the room itself though not exciting was very comfortable with a bed you could sink into, with its feather bed topper. But the best part of this hotel was the massive choice of delights you could have for breakfast, if you were really greedy you could eat and eat, there was amost too much to choose from, Yum! The Caravell is a quality hotel.”

“The Caravelle is awesome. I read in Lonely Planet that the Hyatt was "obviously the best hotel in town" but am certainly glad I didn't listen to the writer. We checked out the Hyatt, very boring business hotel!! The Caravelle is all about Saigon, great location, smoking areas, Casino on site, roof top outdoor lounge, restaurants, just great and a great location. The hotel has a European feel and terrific service. if you get a chance to stay on the Executive floor, it;s well worth it as they have concierge, travel arrangements, etc,, wonderful food for breakfast and dinner, plus free cocktails, etc, all for $50 US extra per night,, do yourself a favor and splurge! The pool is terrific and the staffs are top notch. Theirs also a casino and it is open all night and offers free drinks and such, It’s just a great place! I rank it as one of the best hotels in the world that I've stayed at and hope to return some day! It cost a bit more, but you'll see why.”
