... “We arrived in Saigon in the evening and were happy there was still a room available for us in "the Grand". We decided to take a room on the first floor, overlooking the very atmospheric swimmingpool in the courtyard of the hotel.
The receptionists were extremely friendly to us, helping with any question. The room was spacious, very clean and the beds of high quality. We think this hotel is good value for money. The next day we wanted to make a citytour but the regular tourrs had already left.
The kind and professional tourdesk arranged an excellent guide just for the two of us, and, last but not least, the hotelmanager lent us his glossy black Toyota with blinded windows and his driver!! What a personal service!! We went to the Mekongdelta by public transport; the tourdesk reserved tickets for a super quick boat that runs between Saigon and Can Tho without charging anything. (4 hours, 200.000Dong), a good option for those who don't want to go on an organised tour. We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone who would like to visit Saigon and who appreciates professionality and a warm welcome.”

“Lovely hotel with large spacious rooms and a devine swimming pool, great to relax around in the early evening heat. Expensive with the ++ for tax and service charge but worth it if you are after comfort and a touch of elegance within a central location. We stayed on one of the deluxe wing rooms. We would highly recommend the 2 day, 1 night trip to Can Tho in the Mekong Delta. We booked via a separate source to the hotel on line from the UK prior to departing to Vietnam. The Victoria Hotel in Can Tho is worth the money!”

“I have just arrived home after staying the Grand in HCMC. We had two deluxe suites for 6 nights. The staff were so friendly, helpful and honest. My friend bought a new wallet and threw out her old one. The cleaning staff looked through the wallet as it was in the room bin, and found a diamond ring she had mistaken left in the wallet and returned it to her! Also they helped us obtain phone numbers when another friend's ATM card was taken so she could get it back quickly... And yet another thing they did - my friend's daughter's birthday (also staying at the hotel with us) was on Wedneday and at breakfast the staff sang her happy birthday and presented her with three little profiteroles with a candle! Then on return to our room there was a lovely bunch of roses for her. We did not tell the hotel that it was her birthday. A member of staff (Jack) had gone through the guest list and found it was her birthday! The suite was extremely clean, the beds comfortable and the position was fantastic. I did not see the hotel rooms only two of the deluxe suites which were in the old part of the hotel. We all loved it.”

“We stayed at the Grand Hotel with a small Elderhostel group, and were very pleased; in fact, it was a higher end property than we expected, or needed, for that matter. We were in the newer section, and the rooms were quite large. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioner was efficient. We did need instruction in how to operate the controls, however. The bathroom was average size, with a nice selection of amenities. The location is excellent, about a block from the Saigon River in the old part of town. There were many nice restaurants and shops in the area. This hotel is state owned, and the "rules orientation" did show when one of our group wanted two keys to the room. Her roommate was not feeling well and wanted to sleep, which meant she needed the air conditioner, but the electricity does not work without the key in its slot by the door. There was absolutely no way of getting a second key; in fact, I doubt that they have one, since the keys were the big old clunky kind. They resolved the problem by taking the key off the ring and leaving the big part in the electricity slot, and all was well. The breakfast buffet is lavish and varied, with items to suit westerners who don't want to experiment at breakfast plus plenty of local items for the local guests and for adventurous tourists.”

“My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Grand Hotel, we found the rooms to be clean, well furnished, airconditioned and very comfortable. The position is very central and we walked to see Notre Dame cathederal ( open one hour in the early morning and one hour late afternoon) free to get in and well worth a visit, very beautiful inside, but sad to see the surrounds fenced off. Good restaurants close to hotel, breakfast was satisfactory.”
