..."We first booked this hotel and then I read a couple of the scathing reviews and so my expectations were very, very, very low. The front desk staff were ok. Nothing execptional, but not so hideous either. We had booked a Standard room for 40USD and it was good enough. Room was a little small, but in a city like Ho Chi Minh you don't actually spend that much time in your room. The bathroom was a decent size with a good shower. Air-con was good, and TV was sufficient. We were on the 11th floor, and while the lift was slow, it was more than bearable. The best thing about this hotel is its location. Right near Ben Thanh market, and right in the heart of District 1. We honestly could not ask for anything better in terms of location. It is in the heart of it and great to get around to all the sites in District 1 - markets, shops, War Remnants Museum (10-15 minute walk), Reunification Palace (10 minute walk). The worst thing about this hotel - and it is terrible, is the breakfast. On the first morning we were waiting about 15 minutes to be served. A waiter came over, took our order off the paltry menu, and then we waited another 20 minutes to be told our order was lost. We had to leave so skipped breakfast. The next morning we didn't bother with the hotel's breakfast and had Pho from around the corner. All in all, the hotel is ok. We stayed in HCMC for a night then flew to Phu Quoc, and then had another night in HCMC 5 days later. We felt the Hoang Gia was fine enough for us to stay at again the second time. A word of advice - don't bother getting an airport transfer through the hotel - they charge about 12USD. If you just get a metered cab it only costs between 70,000 - 90,000 dong (which is about 5USD)."

"Seeing Asian guests walking up (their Reception area was one floor higher than ground floor), two ladies inside the counter were still talking to each other. We waited until their conversation finished and asked to view the rooms. They opened in about 2005 so rooms and facilities were still quite new. Their Luxury and Suite rooms were very beautiful but we chose an Ordinary room at US$25net. We stayed quite long and needed to save money. There were 2 chairs and a tea table, a tivi, good air con, etc. The bathroom was new, clean and fresh compared with a more expensive hotel we stayed earlier this month. From here we crossed the park next to New World Hotel to eat in backpackers’ area, (Pham Ngu Lao, De Tham, Bui Vien Street) and shopped at Zen Plaza and Saigon Centre. Except the Reception girls in normal clothes (not Ao Dai) didn’t welcome when we arrived, I like this hotel for the new room and location. The Nguyen An Ninh Street is paralleled with Le Thanh Ton Street and Ly Tu Trong Street. It’s the closest street to Ben Thanh Market among the 3. They have a website and fixed rates. Their suite was at US$70."

"We stayed here for 2 nights 23/24 April 2009. We had 2 rooms as we were travelling as a family - one had a queen sized bed - room small but comfortable, nicely decorated and immaculately clean, only downfall was it was an internal room with no window - the other had twin beds - likewise clean and nicely decorated, this one had a window and view out over rooftops. Excellent location - only a few meters to the Ben Thah market and the night market sets up right outside the door from 6pm-10pm. Staff always helpful and free internet in lobby. Only 1 lift which was slow at times and the breakfast not the best but would definitely stay here again."
