..."Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Great value for money and excellent location in HCMC - near the markets and lots of good restaurants"

"I booked here a day in advance as I was flying out of HMC and had to kill a night. I decided to stay in a place a bit better than my usual $30 a night joints.. and while it is a step up it's really just a business hotel. The guest houses just a bit further along which are half the price are just as good for the basic traveller. My non-smoking room had become so because I didn't smoke... so it reaked. It's a fine last minute choice but if your on a budget.. look further on."

"My husband and I stayed here Jan 09. This is one of the more expensive hotels in the area, we paid $80 including breakfast. It's in the backpackers area. I say it's expensive as later we stayed at Anan 2 which was much cheaper and more value for money. This hotel is only a 15minute walk from the market and about 25minutes from the main attractions. However if you don't fancy the walk get a taxi for about a quid. However be careful which type of taxi you get in as they can hugely vary, we got stung a few times. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful - they helped us book our onward flights and hotel. They had good english. The rooms were clean and a good size. The breakfast was disappointing. They do a breakfast buffet and it just wasn't that great. We ended up having breakfast elsewhere. I would recommend this hotel however like i say, you would probably get better value shopping around."

"We turned up on the doorstep of the Liberty 3 on Christmas Eve with no reservation, however they managed to secure us a room on the second floor of the hotel. The Liberty 3 is a great hotel - white linen sheets, red oak doors, hot showers with great pressure (which is very rare in Vietnam!), beautiful fittings and fixtures, friendly staff - however the one thing they did skimp on is double glazing on the windows!! Christmas Eve in the Liberty was a nightmare, as it neighbours an extremely popular tourist bar - The Allez Boo. Additionally, anyone who has been to Saigon, would know that the constant droning hum of motorbikes and tooting of horns can turn even the deepest sleeper into an insomniac.
We stayed 3 nights in the Liberty - the first 2 on the 2nd floor and the final night on the 6th (after requesting a quieter room), and whilst the high thread count sheets and wonderfully soft mattresses were extremely comfortable, we only managed to nod off after stuffing toilet paper in our ears and jamming a goose down pillow on top of our heads!
Having spent our first 2 nights in Ho Chi Minh City at a cheaper hotel on the same street, I understand that Pham Ngu Lao is not exactly the quietest road in the city. Independently of its surroundings, The Liberty 3 is a luxurious hotel and a great place to stay, however for the price we paid you would expect just a bit more soundproofing to the windows."
