..."The swimming pool is small, but cosy and adequate. My sister and I were at the pool everyday during my stay and it was never overcrowded. The hotel staff at the pool were also excellent in their service.
Once, I left my mobile phone under my pillow and forgot to bring it out with me or kept it away. Having read a review that someone left their camera in the room and lost it, I was actually quite ready to lose my phone as well. But the phone was not stolen and left neatly by the table for me!
Didn't quite like the location of the hotel initially, as it was quite far from the City Centre and the Ben Thah market. But subsequently, I was glad that it was near the backpackers' area where the cheap daytours are. Food and shops at the backpapers' area were generally cheaper too. A 5 mins cab ride to the city centre cost only US$1-2."

"My husband, three teenage daughters and I stayed at the Metropole Hotel at the end of January early February. When choosing a hotel in Ho Chi Minh we wanted to have a pool at a reasonable price and in a reasonable location. We feel we achieved this at the Metropole. We found it was great to head back to the hotel mid afternoon and have a refreshing swim in the nice pool before heading out again in the evening. It was easy to catch a taxi into the city centre but we only did this one evening because the shops there were far too expensive for us and the restaurants were more expensive also. Whereas the backpackers area was just a five minute walk from the Metropole where we could eat and shop at much better prices. We also booked our tour of the Cu Chi tunnels in the backpackers area for $7 US per person plus $5 entrance fees each as opposed to $40 US per person quoted at the Metropole hotel tour desk. The hotel city tour was $56 US per person. We decided to just catch taxis everywhere and saw all the city sites for about $15 US for the taxi plus entrance fees which weren't very much. It was about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the Ben Thanh Market or a 2 minute $2.50 taxi ride from the hotel. The breakfast was also excellent and our rooms were very comfortable but there was only internet available in the foyer. If you want a pool, want to be close to the more budget shops and restaurants and are happy to catch taxis the Metropole was great. We'd heard a lot of negative comments about taxi drivers but had no significant problems ourselves. The door men at the hotel call one of the taxis waiting outside the hotel over for you so I presume they do the right thing otherwise you'd report them to the hotel. The only taxi driver who turned his meter off and overcharged us was the one who took us to the airport and I guess he figured we couldn't report him."

"We stayed for two nights in the Metropole. The rooms are clean and nice. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the breakfast is excellent. Probably a disadvantage is that there are only three computers with internet acces for the whole hotel!! The location of the hotel is very good, next to the backpackers area."

"We stayed at the Metropole on two occasions whilst in Vietnam recently. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and what you would expect and everything worked well (air con, tv, shower etc). The hotel is quite well situated and the breakfast was fine. We returned after a rather harrowing trip from Hoi An,, heavy rains had cancelled planes and trains and we almost missed our connecting flight back to Sydney. The staff welcomed us back, were flexible with our booking and upgraded our room. They took our washing and made sure it was returned in time for us to catch our flight on the same day before our flight. We did use the "Spa" and my guess is it provides other services as well as beauty treatments and massage however they played it straight while I was there and the foot massage was divine and well worth the $8USD after slogging around Saigon in the heat all day. It was also good to have a Hotel with a pool, very welcome and refreshing in that very hot city. I also had a manicure and pedicure which was okay but the room they use has absolutely no ambience and was a bit depressing (mouldy ceiling and a bit tacky). Would we stay there again? Yes a perfectly comfortable hotel, with good staff and service. Recommend you stay away from the Spa if your expectations are high but the foot massage was good!"

"This was our first time in Saigon and we were unsure of where to stay, especially since we were bringing with us two small children. We chose Metropole because of rating from TripAdvisor which were quite accurate. We arrived at the hotel and found the lobby to be average but service was with a smile. When we were told we were being upgraded to a suite we were very pleased. The suites have a small sitting area with another t.v. which made it very convenient for the kids to have their own space. The rooms were very neat and clean with modern furnishings. Location was excellant if you are interested in going to the Ben Than Market as it was walking distance or you can pickup a taxi for about $2 or so to get to the main tourist spots. Gym, spa and pool were also very decent. You can stay near the higher end stores at Dong Khoi but pay much higher. This was definately a good bang for the buck and I would highly recommend it to anyone."
