... “This hotel has the best location but your experience in the hotel all depends on what room you get. The difference in levels is unbelievable. On our first night we were upgraded and were very happy with our rooms - large, furniture a bit old-fashioned but lots of character and we were thrilled with the hotel. The location excellent, the rooftop bar a wonderful place to spend a few hours. However we went on a trip for 1 night and when we returned were given rooms that were absolutely awful. We refused to stay in these rooms, and the hotel upgraded us to the most magnificent rooms - even nicer than those on our first night. If I hadn't seen these awful rooms, I would most certainly have given top rating to the rooms, cleanliness and value for money. However, having seen the terrible rooms, I feel I have to warn fellow travellers and cannot give top marks. Breakfast was excellent, staff were lovely”

“Rex hotel is well situated for shopping, restaurants etc. A little dated in style but this was more than made up for by friendliness (and helpfullness) of staff and comfotable room. Breaky had a good selection appropriate to standard of hotel Good wireless internet (free) with transitter in room so no reception problems. Definitely recommend for holiday stay. Organsied in our case by Mekong Travel who did a superb job with all of our Vietnam travel arrangements.”

“I booked a package tour of Vietnam, and our trip ended in the Rex Saigon. The room itself was kinda so-so, not especially nice and facing the street; if traffic noise bothers you, you should know it goes on about 24 hours a day, so you may need to be specific in your reservations. But there were no real problems. Staff was always lovely. The restaurants, cafes, and lounging areas in the hotel are quite nice. In particular, I was impressed with Cung Dinh. Plus, the hotel really is in the middle of everything. Just be careful crossing the street! Also I must recommend you walk/take a cab to Quan An Ngon, a nearby restaurant with some amazing food for a lot less than you'd pay in any hotel-restaurant. If you want 5-star service, though, apparently Caravelle is the way to go.”

“My wife and I spent several days at the Rex. Our room was comfortable and the staff were friendly and accommodating - the way so many people are in Vietnam. The breakfast buffet is excellent, although the choices are the same every day. Try the breads - excellent croissants and mini baguettes. It's easy to walk to restaurants and shopping markets from the hotel. Although there is still some renovation work in progress, it is not obtrusive and didn't present a problem for us. The hot water is very hot, so be careful when filling a bath tub. Overall we rate the hotel as above average, and were happy with its old style charm and character.”

“We stayed the Rex Hotel for 2 nights while on a business trip. The outside looked quite scary for a while, as part of the next building which was torn down was still attached to the hotel. The lobby was, however, big and rather impressive. I was not impressed by their use of a normal room key, instead of the magnetic card keys. The door lock was also rather filmsy. We got huge rooms, almost like a suite. However, the corridors leading to the rooms were not well-lit, lending the place a sleazy feel. The rooms, however, were airy and clean and the beds very firm and comfortable. Our stay was generally very comfortable and almost luxurious. The hotel's wireless was problematic though. The buffet breakfast was good with a good selection of Vietnamese and other foods. Will recommend for stay for its convenient location, clean rooms and high level of comfort.”
