..."Thang Long is a small gem situated just off one of the main tourist streets in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 and a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal to Vung Tau.

The rooms are small but always clean and if you get a Superior room the bathroom is good. The regular rooms have a very small bathroom and the shower tends to make everything wet.

The beds are hard but that is very common in Vietnam and soft comfortable beds are a rarity. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the breakfast is adequate and free with the room. WiFi is available in the rooms however the signal strength varies depending on the floor you are on. Free internet access is available at reception.

Cable TV and mini-bar fridge in all rooms. The rooms are well priced between USD$30-40 a night. I have stayed there many times and never had a bad experience."

"Stayed at the Thang Long for four nights after reading reviews on this website. Initially sent an e-mail booking a room (superior) and received an e-mail reply very quickly and without having to submit my credit card number. Someone was there to pick us up from the airport on time. Rooms are a little small as is the bathroom but very clean. Has everything you really need and the position is excellent, right next door to the Sheraton! Staff are very accommodating and some speak very good English. Basic brekkie which includes one food item - toast, soup or eggs and one drink - juice, coffee or tea. All presented very nicely and always hot. Would definitely stay there again."

"This hotel was booked for my sister and I by my daughter, who lives in Ho Chi Minh City and was impressed by the friendly welcome she received and the authentic Vietnamese style for such a great price. We were impressed too, and had a great stay there. A tall narrow hotel, typical Vietnamese architecture, it is just round the corner from the main street in the city, and we had a great view of the river. Staff could not do enough to help us, and the smiles of the receptionists and security staff will stay with us a long time. We were also pleased with the free internet access. Our luggage was stored free of charge while we spent a few days in Cambodia, and we had no trouble re-booking the room for when we came back. We had the VIP suite with a little room with tea and coffee etc, beautiful furniture embellished with dragons, bedroom and bathroom with bath and shower. All for 50 dollars a night between us! Yes, the beds are a bit hard but it is a fact of life that Vietnamese like hard beds, and we had lots of soft pillows. Everything was very clean, and a good choice for breakfast. Excellent value for money."

"I arrived late - 2am - and the metal shopfront door was rolled shut. A few pushes of the buzzer finally brought the door up and from that point on, I enjoyed my stay at the Thang Long. Good location - close to the river and the old town shopping district. Friendly staff. Decent room for the price. I originally tried to book the An An based on Lonely Planet reviews. It was unavailable, and this was offred as an alternative. Very happy with the choice."
