..."We recently spent several days at the Victory Hotel, and really enjoyed. The hotel is very nice. Our room was spacious, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was great! The well maintained rooftop pool provided a nice place to do laps, or just cool off. We also utilized their workout room. The location is convenient to a local Vietnamese market, and a wide range of restaurants. It is also within walking distance -- or short taxi ride – to the Independence Palace, the Cathedral, and Ben Thanh Market…"

"The Victory hotel is a good mid-priced hotel with a pool, a little way away from the centre of Saigon. It’s a pleasant, clean hotel, with not much personality which seems to be popular with tour groups. I enjoyed my stay here and I would recommend it to others.
When I was first looking into staying at the Victory, I sent an enquiry through their site and it was answered promptly. I decided to go ahead and book and they didn’t ask for a deposit, just confirmed my booking.
The hotel doesn’t arrange transfers - I emailed the week before we arrived to see if they could and they advised to get a taxi, which should cost around 100,000dong. While I appreciated that they didn’t try to make a buck by charging me double the cost, it would have been nice to come out and have someone waiting for us after the flight from Sydney. As it was, we used the Sasco desk in the airport – DON’T use them, they charged us 230,000dong for a private car and when we returned to the airport a couple of days later, the cab only cost 80,000dong. The cab rank is out of the doors of the international terminal at the airport, and to the far left – we used Mai Linh taxis (you can request them specifically at the rank) and apart from being slightly short-changed once (2000dong), and being asked for a tip another time, I think they’re not a bad company compared to some.
The lobby was well presented with marble floors and a doorman. There was also an ATM there which was really convenient. The front desk staff all spoke good English and were very helpful. They don’t try to sell us tours or other services (in fact none of the places we stayed did).
There was a small business centre near the lobby, with three PCs which we used to access the Internet with no problems.
Our room was a decent size usual hotel room, with a king sized bed (rather hard as most Vietnamese beds are), two chairs, table, a desk and still room for both our suitcases.
While the airconditioner was quiet, and didn’t wake us up in the middle of the night, it wasn’t very effective for the size of the room. The power in the room went off when we took the key so the room heated up quite a bit during the day. It took a few hours to cool down once the air conditioner was turned on again, but by the time bed time came around, the room was cool enough to sleep.
For some reason, we had two showers in our bathroom, one over the bath and another set up in a corner. This was handy because we could hang our laundry up over the bath. The bathroom was clean, although there was a little mould on the grouting in the shower.
The room had a verandah, which overlooked the street and the school across the road.
The traffic noise was pretty loud - the hotel is on the corner of two very busy streets (although I’m not sure there are any quiet streets in Saigon) and we were on the 4th floor overlooking one of the streets. Traffic started at around 5.30am and went till about 10pm, but with the air conditioning hum and a good set of earplugs, I was able to sleep OK, and I’m a light sleeper. As the other poster mentioned, the hotel probably would have moved us if we’d asked but it wasn’t bad enough to warrant packing everything up.
The rooftop pool was a good size and the water wasn’t cold. We used it in the mornings (it opened at 6am), and it was clean and refreshing.
The buffet breakfast was pretty good. More Vietnamese/Asian options, less Western options (no cereals, but they did have eggs and toast), but the dishes were very tasty and I can have cornflakes at home if I want! Breakfast is from 6-9 – this seems early but Saigon is up and about very early – be warned!
The location is quite a bit north from the main centre of Saigon, about 10-15 mins walk across some busy streets. Not that I mind a walk but it was a little draining in the heat – a taxi would probably only cost 12000dong anyway.
There’s a supermarket just north along D Nam Ky Khoi Nghia where you can stock up on water and other essentials at reasonable prices.
Where to eat
I can recommend Quan An Ngon, a 5 minute walk down D Nam Ky Khoi Nghia – it’s across the road and down a bit from the entrance to Reunification Palace. It looks nice, with a gate through an ochre rendered wall, and it’s in a lush garden with banana trees surrounding what looks like an old French style mansion. Despite it’s good presentation, it’s very cheap, and the food is great."
